Conditions We Treat

Peripheral Neuropathy

Nerve damage causing burning, numbness, and tingling in the feet.

Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the peripheral nerves that causes weakness, numbness, and pain — usually in the hands and feet. Diabetes is the most common cause, but it can also result from other conditions, medications, or vitamin deficiencies.

Signs and Symptoms

Recognizing Peripheral Neuropathy

  • Burning or shooting pain in the feet
  • Numbness or reduced sensation
  • Tingling or pins-and-needles sensation
  • Sensitivity to touch -- even light contact
  • Muscle weakness
  • Loss of balance and coordination
Treatment Approach

Dr. Husein's philosophy

80% of cases resolve with conservative care

Conservative Care First (Preferred)

  • Blood sugar management (for diabetic neuropathy)
  • Vitamin B12 and alpha-lipoic acid supplementation
  • Gabapentin or pregabalin for pain management
  • Physical therapy
  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
  • Proper diabetic footwear
  • Regular foot inspections

Surgical Consideration (Last Resort)

Surgery is always the last resort.
Surgery is not typically used for peripheral neuropathy itself. If nerve compression is identified (such as tarsal tunnel), surgical decompression may provide relief.
